Following the transfer of 1-8 Calder Road from Renfrewshire Council to the Association in October 2006, we have successfully converted the eight vacant properties into four, five apartment family homes.
Site work began on Calder Road in April 2007 and the conversion work on the properties was completed in October 2007 when we celebrated with an open day which everyone in the community was invited too.
Communities Scotland provided £250,000 of Housing Association Grant towards the refurbishment costs of Calder Road. All the properties meet lifetime home standards and were fitted with new replacement windows, gas central heating, kitchens and bathrooms. Also all doors, fixtures and fittings were replaced and to complete the refurbishment process the properties were painted new bright colours to mark their transformation.
The transformation of the properties was well received by all concerned and the creation of the five apartment family homes addressed housing need for this type of accommodation which was lacking in the area at present.
The transfer of the properties from Renfrewshire Council to the Association prevented the houses being demolished and stopped the creation of another gap site in Ferguslie Park. Calder Road is an excellent example of partnership working between the Association, Renfrewshire Council and the Scottish Government which delivered homes that are in demand and meet the aspirations and need of the local community.
