The Tannahill Community Centre is at the heart of the Associations regeneration plans. Now owned and managed by the Association, the Centre is the hub of commercial and community activity in Ferguslie Park.
Built in 1995 the Centre is home to facilities such as a library, doctor’s surgery, chemist, post office, community hall and Ferguslie Park Housing Associations office.
Although the Tannahill Centre is good at providing essential services, there is great disparity between the services and activities provided and those local people need and desire. To address this disparity a new vision for the Centre has been developed which has been informed by extensive community and stakeholder consultation.
The vision is to redesign the current centre's facilities in order to promote greater social development and address the prevailing deprivation in Ferguslie Park. It will specifically look at healthy living, employability, training, confidence building, leisure and social inclusion opportunities and will offer multiple use and flexibility of the rooms and facilities which are more in tune with what local people are asking for.
In order to make this vision a reality regeneration staff have been applied for funding from a number of sources. This year we were awarded £162,390 for the National Lottery Growing Community Assest Technical Assistance Fund. This will allow us to employ a design team, consult with the community, develop a business plan and full design plans for the Tannahill Centre.
Over the next nine months we will be carrying out this work and aim to apply to the National Lottery and other funders in early 2009 for funding to implement our redesign plans. The estimated cost for the design of the Centre is £2 million with £1million of funding from the National Lottery being applied for.
